LIFE IS A WONDERFUL JOURNEY TOWARDS PERFECT HEALTH. LET'S KEEP GOING.

The Laws of Health

God is longing to bring healing to our broken body, mind and soul. His love for us is deeper than we can imagine and He doesn't want us to be ill in any way. Therefore He has put in His word the principles that we need to live by in order to be healthy and to recover from all diseases.

As we all seek for health and wellbeing, we should know that the right Person to fix or heal our body is the One that made it. Jesus is just as willing to heal today as when He was on the earth. He does not use direct miracles mostly, but He works through the laws that He established in our body. When we supply our body with what it needs, then Jesus uses those conditions to restore us. For example, when we get a cut, it immediately starts to clot in order to prevent further blood loss. That is God healing us through the law or principle that He placed in our body. Upon exposure to the air our blood clots, only if we are eating iron rich foods. “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3 KJV. God binds up our wounds, our work is to supply the system with what it needs.

What God wants of us is to gain a knowledge of our body and its requirements. Should we gain this knowledge, we will know why we become ill, and how to get well. If our car breaks down, the first question we ask is, “What does it need to work properly?” The permanent solution for the issue is to give the car what it needs. The principle is the same with the body. When we are ill, our first question should be, “Why am I sick? And what does my body need in order to be well?” That is how we find healing, and solve our health issues with the help of God. Should we carefully consider this matter, we will find that adding drug medication to our body can never bring lasting and true relief, because the cause of illness has not been addressed.

When we give the body all that it requires then God can use those substances to restore it to perfect health. In this second issue of The Healthy Christian we will discuss the broad principles or laws of our health given in the Bible; and some detailed principles given by scientific studies of the human body.

Pure Air

The first principle of health we find in the Bible is pure air - oxygen. In Genesis God tells us, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7 KJV. It was after we received oxygen, not food nor water, that we became alive. This is our first and most important biological need. Therefore it is important that we get as much pure air as we can by practicing deep abdominal breathing. Our air should be pure, therefore we should be careful not to let any fruits or leaves decay in and around our homes. This produces a miasma that will poison the lungs and blood.

Sunlight

The second principle of health given in the Bible is sunlight. The Bible gives us the principle that sunlight is important for our healing and growth. “But unto you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” Malachi 4:2 KJV. When exposed to the sun, the skin produces Vitamin D which helps the body to absorb calcium. Calcium forms, hardens and strengthens bones making us grow in stature. Vitamin D also accelerates wound healing. Taking 10 to 30 minutes of sunlight in the morning is a great way to supply the body’s vitamin D needs.

Temperance

The third principle of health that God has given us is abstemiousness or temperance. “That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.” Titus 2:2 KJV. Temperance is abstinence from that which is harmful and moderate use of that which is good. God wants us to abstain from anything that poisons our blood. For example, alcohol and other harmful chemicals. “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!” Isaiah 5:11 KJV. Alcohol causes inflammation in the body because it is acidic and thus destroys healthy cells.

Rest

The fourth principle of health God gives us is Rest. Jesus says, “I must work the works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” John 9:4 KJV. The principle Christ gives is that night-time is not for working, neither mentally nor physically. Our work should end at evening each day. “Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.” Psalm 104:23 KJV. To allow God to repair our cells from the day’s strain, we should be in bed by 9 pm and sleep for 8 hours each night. This is crucial for hormonal balance. “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so He giveth His beloved sleep.” Psalm 127:2 KJV. This scripture indicates that sleep loss is a cause of depression and anxiety. Sleep loss reduces all cognitive functions.

Exercise

The fifth principle of health God gives to us is exercise. The Bible tells us that exercise or movement is the most visible sign that life is present in an organism. “And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live:” Ezekiel 47:9 KJV. The more we move, is the more life we have because exercise allows better circulation of the blood. The blood is the life current carrying oxygen, water and nutrients, and which takes away waste matter. Without exercise certain areas of the body will be poisoned from wastes and deficient in nutrients. Perfect health relies on perfect circulation. Brisk walking, in the early morning, with the arms in action, is the best exercise because it exercises both the upper and lower body at the same time.

Proper Nutrition

The sixth principle of health that God gave to us is proper nutrition. God tells us in Genesis 1:29, “ Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” The diet God intended for man’s use is a whole-foods plant-based diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts. Eating a variety of foods in their natural state is best for our health. God wants us to eat foods that are in no way rotting. “He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.” Psalm 147:14 KJV. Foods that are rotting will ferment in the gut, producing acid that will poison the digestive organs.

Water

The seventh principle of health that the Bible gives to us is Water. Water is needed to cleanse the body—inside and out. “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.” Ezekiel 36:25 KJV. Poor hygiene is one of the most common causes of disease. Water is also important to prevent loss of consciousness (fainting), and to keep the blood diluted enough to go through the blood vessels. The urine should always be clear or pale, indicating that we are drinking enough water. Water should be taken gradually, two mouthfuls every 10 minutes. Dehydration is a common cause of migraines. Water should not be taken with meals, because it causes indigestion. It should be taken 30 mins prior and two hours after each meal.

Trust in God

Why do we need to trust in God in order to have and recover health? God instructs us to make lifestyle changes and use simple natural remedies in order to recover our health, the world says that we are to use drug medications. It is only our trust in God that can lead us to choose to do what He says, because He Created us, and then died and rose again in order to save us. “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.” Psalm 103:3 KJV.
